The project

About this project.

The front of this store carries one large illuminated sign above the entrance, photographed here both lit at dusk and unlit in daylight so you can see how the face reads in each.

The more useful part of this project is around the back. A thrift store takes donations, and donations arrive by car, so the rear elevation got its own directional signage: a drop-off header above the loading door and an arrow panel at the service entrance.

It is unglamorous signage and it is the kind that stops a queue of cars forming at the wrong door. Wayfinding is usually the cheapest part of a package and the part customers notice the absence of.

The finished sign

Photographed on site.

Daylight and after dark, which is the honest way to judge an illuminated sign.

Fabrication and installation

The part nobody photographs.

Letters before the faces go on, structures before the panels arrive, and crews on the lift.
